Testing for web accessibility can feel daunting when you aren’t used to it. But with the growing requirements for sites to meet accessibility guidelines, it has become an inescapable part of a developer’s life.
Ensuring accessibility into our sites and apps should be seen as a challenge rather than a chore.
By working on real life sites, as well as some code snippets, this workshop will demonstrate an accessibility testing workflow, which can be integrated into your own coding workflow.
Also, we will include a review of automated testing, and hands-on manual testing using a variety of tools, from using the keyboard to using a screen reader application.

About WCAG
Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) is a set of web accessibility guidelines developed through the W3C process at past of the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI). The WCAG documents explain how to make digital content more accessible to people. WCAG 2.0, was published in December 2008 and became an ISO standard, in October 2012. WCAG 2.1 became a W3C Recommendation in June 2018.
WCAG is published through the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI), a group composed of individuals and organizations around the world, working in cooperation to provide a single shared standard for web content accessibility that meets the needs of individuals, organizations, and governments internationally.
About Nicolas Steenhout
A developer in the mid-‘90s, Nicolas Steenhout was approached by clients facing issues not yet part of the public consciousness. On the emerging web, accessibility hurdles were keeping people with disabilities from engaging with a technological revolution.
Confronted by this gap within the digital landscape, Nic began championing web accessibility. He transitioned into the non-profit sector where he collaborated with people with a wide variety of impairments and was introduced to new assistive technologies.
Twenty years on, Nic continues his accessibility work as a consultant. Having worked on three continents, he’s engaged with thousands of individuals with disabilities. Blogger, podcaster, public speaker, Nic offers real-world insight into everyday accessibility issues.

After Registration
Once registered, an order confirmation arrives in your email. A few moments later after you have registered, the person assigned the ticket receives an event details email that includes, among other things:
- A calendar invite to add the event to your calendar
- A unique link to join the event on the day of the conference
Also, as the event draws near, ticket holders will receive email reminders, so they don’t miss a thing!
On the day of the online event, enjoy and learn! In one to two weeks after the event, you will be notified that recordings have been posted so you can review and share with your team.
