Fix the Web

Fix the Web is a crowdsourcing project allowing users to report accessibility barriers to website owners to encourage a more accessible web.

Improving digital accessibility… through the power of the crowd

If websites aren’t designed with accessibility in mind, they may exclude people with disabilities. Digital accessibility is about ensuring everyone can access the benefits of the internet and other digital content.

Knowbility is pleased to announce that it is taking over the management of Fix the Web, an effort started and led by Citizens Online, a basic digital skills and digital inclusion charity in the UK. The original Fix the Web initiative was funded in part by Nominet Trust in the UK.

The Fix the Web project encourages people to report accessibility problems with digital accessibility to website owners and encourage them to fix accessibility issues. Reporters do more than note accessibility problems; they also help lead web managers to solutions at Knowbility and elsewhere on the web.

Currently, Fix the Web is on hiatus. The timeline for the relaunch is this:

Now through May 2018

Move and refine the current Fix the Web site materials to the Knowbility website; Fix the Web will have a dedicated section on the Knowbility website, much like our OpenAIR annual hackathon.

June 1, 2018

Redirect the Fix the Web URL to the Knowbility materials and officially re-launch the program, and begin signing up volunteers to help.
