Phill Jenkins
Accessibility Executive, IBM Accessibility
Phill Jenkins is a digital accessibility leader in IBM’s Design group. Mr. Jenkins was appointed in 2008 by the President of the United States to the U.S. Access Board, a federal agency dedicated to accessible design of information and communications technology and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 508, and other regulations. Phill serves on the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)’s Steering Council and was a key influence in creating the Web Accessibility Initiative in 1996. Mr. Jenkins has been leading accessibility efforts in IBM for two decades. Phill works across all IBM business units, including IBM Interactive, Cloud, and Watson, and provides innovative accessibility approaches, inclusive design thinking, and currently leads IBM’s enterprise accessibility compliance systems.
Phill joined IBM in 1981 and helped launch the IBM Personal Computer and pioneered early usability studies. He received several awards for his dedication and contributions to making the Web more accessible to everyone. Phill holds several patents, speaks English and Italian fluently. He is married and has 3 sons and lives in the Austin, Texas area where he volunteers in the community.
