Natalie Shaheen
Ms. Shaheen is a passionate educator and a champion for students with disabilities. She advocates for the rights of students with disabilities to have full and equal access to all aspects of the learning environment through her work as both an educational consultant and a researcher. In her consulting work, Ms. Shaheen develops and facilitates STEM programs for students with disabilities from around the country. Ms. Shaheen is also a doctoral candidate in instructional technology at Towson University where her dissertation research pertains to K-12 school districts’ adoption of technology accessibility to ensure student with disabilities have full and equal access to 21st century learning opportunities.
Ms. Shaheen is a special education teacher and a teacher of the blind by professional background. She has taught in a wide variety of settings including charter schools, large urban public schools, and residential schools. Ms. Shaheen also served as the Director of Education for the National Federation of the Blind for several years. Her professional experiences as well as her personal experiences as a blind person have engendered a deep devotion to supporting the needs of all students with disabilities.
Ms. Shaheen earned her bachelor’s degree from Ohio University in moderate-intense special education and her master’s degree in teaching blind students from The Ohio State University. The merit of Ms. Shaheen’s work has been recognized by the bestowment of several awards including the New Leader Award from The Ohio State University College of Education and Human Ecology and the Towson University President’s Diversity and Inclusion Award.
