Tom Jewett
Web Accessibility Expert, Database and UI
Tom Jewett is an independent consultant in web accessibility, specializing in Web Design and accessibility, database design, user interface design, social issues of computing. Mr. Jewett is a Lecturer Emeritus of Computer Sciences at Cal State University Long Beach (1992–2007). He is Co-author with Professor Wayne Dick of Practical Relational Database Design. He was Web project leader for California State University System’s 23-campus Accessible Technology Initiative, an effort that received ComputerWorld Honors in 2007.
Tom was also Editor (1996–2001) and Chair of the ACM Special Interest Group on Computers and Society (2001–05). From 1987-2006 he was a TA/RA and Part-time Lecturer at University of California, Irvine; also adjunct faculty and CIS Program Director at Chapman College, West LA Extension Center (1986–93). Thomas is a retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel (1967–1987) where his distinguished career included assignments as: NDS segment director, GPS program; communication systems planner/analyst; HQ missile crew evaluator and training equipment manager; missile crew commander, instructor, evaluator, training equipment manager, 1974 Blanchard Trophy team, first programming in Univac assembler language; Commander, 3724 Basic Military Training Squadron.
